Welcome To Wessex

A Guide for Visitors

It’s easy to get to Wessex. And it’s easy to travel within Wessex. How you travel – by air, by road, by rail, by sea – is your choice. This guide makes it an easy choice.

The medieval city of Winchester, capital of the ancient Kingdom of Wessex, is only an hour’s journey time by road or rail from central London. To reach Bath takes only two hours from London. No point in Wessex is more than three hours travel from London. Once you’re in London you’re almost in Wessex!

For those planning to arrive by air we offer a choice of four London airports. We also offer four regional airports. Click on AIR TRAVEL to choose your airport, your airline and your car rental operator.

We are also proud of our road and rail systems. Whether you drive yourself or prefer to be driven, you have only to click on ROAD TRAVEL or RAIL TRAVEL to discover all you need.

Should you be coming from Western France, we are well served by three ferry operators offering direct service to Wessex. For those coming from further south, we are also served by two cruise-ferry operations from Northern Spain. For full details, click on SEA TRAVEL.
